Welcome to the Deb Blog Afterlife: Deb blog takes on a new purpose: August 20, 2008

We originally created this blog site so that Deb could get the word out on her condition to all of her friends across the country. Well, how the hell do you update on "dead"? – You can’t, so we’re going to move where no blog’s gone before. The afterlife – our life after Deb.

Let’s face it; Deb interconnected all of us. If she loved you, she was talking about you to someone, and they learned to love you too. If she inspired you, then a bit of her spirit lives in you now. Are we just supposed to pretend we don’t know each other now and move on? No! We’ll keep the blog going with things Deb would have liked to know, do, see or hear. We also hope to have a few activities during the year that are dedicated/inspired by Deb; perhaps a highway clean-up day in Deb’s name, or someone running a race with Deb’s name on their shirt. Maybe send special shout-outs to other GBM patients who are fighting today. I honestly don’t know what the future will bring but we’ll be here.

So what does that mean for you?? Keep your comments coming; we all love to hear them. Let me lay down first challenge…create your own Deb top 10. Here’s my try.

Top 10 things Deb would be doing if she were healthy and here today.

10) Be watching the Olympics, and thinking I have a better ass then they do - and she’d be right.
9) Looking at the Michael Phelps diet and thinking, finally a guy who can eat as much as I can and who isn’t fat.
8) Making a baby boy quilt for Antonietta’s new little boy and one for mine.
7) Laying out her master plan for ruling the world and decorating it appropriately.
6) Dumping another poor bastard (nothing personal Charlie☺ )
5) Tricking some new unsuspecting women into a personal fitting at Nordstrom intimates – saving the American figure one set of boobs at a time.
4) Giving “skilled” advice to someone about the most embarrassing problem they’ve ever had, without even one giggle.
3) Shopping, shopping, shopping
2) Starting to date a new guy, if he passed all of the criteria

And The #1 thing Deb would be doing if she was healthy and here today would be laughing; full smile, half a yell, and completely intoxicating☺

Love to all,
Amy M.

Amy,
Great idea,Thanks! I'm going to work on Deb's top 10 in Heaven! so I'll get working on that! I was thinking, since we only know a lot of each other thru this site, maybe it would be nice if people were able to send you a pic of themselves that we could post,so we can put faces w/names, or if you had a pic w/you and deb in it, maybe post that, just trying to think up some ideas to keep this blog rolling. I know I still check it all the time.....Deb was in my dreams the nite before last, it was a strange dream, she was in heaven, getting married (to who, I do not know) but she was so happy, I hope that is her way of letting us know she's doin just fine!!!!
Thanks to you Amy for all you do for this blog!
love ya,
Nikki
oh.....have you and Brian decided on a name for the baby yet LOL!!!

Deb's Top 10 Reasons to Love Heaven
10. Floating around on clouds eating plenty of philly cream cheese on bagles (or whatever else my heart desires.)

9.Starting a workout class....maybe called Heavenly Bodies....(hey, just cuz we're dead, doesn't mean we shouldn't have great asses!)

8.Finding new ways to coordinate my outfits to my new wings and halo. Interesting to say the least!

7. Having all these new people to get to analyze, err, I mean get to know, you know I'm good at that, no matter where I am.

6.Looking My best....Always!

5.(in relation to #6) There are a ton of HOT guys up here!!!!

4.Knowing someday I'll be reunited with you and knowing how great that day will be....I can show you around and introduce you to everyone.

3.Being able to see what any of you are doing...ANYTIME, ANYWHERE!! :)(This one almost ranks #1,but......)

2. Being reunited with gramma!

1. Not having that fuckin cancer anymore! I'm free!!!!!!

.....maybe the anonymous song writer would create a new song about deb???? we haven't had a good funny song in a while!

Hi Amy M,

It's fabulous that you are willing to help spearhead the effort to keep this blog going. Very transformative work we are all doing, huh??

I like the idea of people sending in photos.....creating a "Who's Who in Deb's life," maybe.

The idea of reaching out to other GBM patients is really great. People could use this blog as a model of sorts.....a reference point for creating something beautiful of their own.....and to remind patients and families who are suffering that each day is still precious and valuable in spite of the stuggle.

Oh, and I think we are due for a dose of Molly Mae humor. Where is she?? I have never laughed so hard as I did when I read her posts over these past 2 years or so.

Awright people - it's MAY - not MAE. Haven't we had this discussion????? Realizing I'm from the south - it's my last name - not my middle name.

So you want some humor? You want a spoof song? Give me a song title to work with - what's your pleasure?

Here's the only funny thing that's happened lately. I thought of Debster while I was doing my "prep" for a colonoscopy. You know - where you drink about 64 oz of laxative and spend the rest of the day in the bathroom with a good book and some air freshener? All I could think about was her "herb and oil enema" thingy. Gotta tell ya - I STILL can't picture signing up voluntarily to pay someone to make me poop my brains out. Mars must have been in retrograde.....

I'll wait for you guys to give me a song to twist.

Still Love ya Deb!
Mollie MAY

Song? :> Oh How Happy (You Have Made Me) by Shades of Blue

Anonymous said...

Ok, I was looking at some fabric at JoAnn's Fabric store to finish the quilt Debbie had started. Auntie Di had told me that Deb had bought her stuff there and we actually found a receipt from a Conn. store in 2003. This one color blue in the quilt was an odd shade, not powder blue, not federal blue, you get the gist, and was on Deb's notations that she wanted to use it to bind the finished product. Believe it or not, they had the EXACT color/print that Deb had bought herself!!! There was nothing else even close to matching---if that's not Debbie working on my behalf I don't know what is.
The other strange thing was that the bag from the store is usually just printed with the JoAnn'a store logo on it. I've never really noticed it any other way. The bag with my exact blue fabric has a "Debbie Mumm Fabrics" printed on the opposite side. I'm sure it's just a marketing promo but, sheesh, way to freak a girl out :-)
Sort of reminds me of when Jimmy said that they had seen a "Deborah" boat!

Oops! Sorry I forgot to sign that last post.............cousin Jeanne

that's deb, telling you to tell "mum" she's thinking of her!!! I've never noticed that EVER on a JoAnn fabrics bag either....she's tryin'!!! you go Deb!!!! Congrats on finding the exact same fabric, that's pretty amazing, you will have to have Amy M post a picture of the quilt here when you have finished it!

This is a great idea to keep the blog going. I like the idea of posting pictures and I'd love to show a picture of the quilt Deb made me. Knock Knock Knocking On Heaven's Door by Eric Clapton ( I think) is a good song too. Love the top 10 lists!

Greetings to all
Mary

I think it was Dylan, Mary but a good suggestion indeed

OK - thanks for all the suggestions. I'm not good wnough to spoof Dylan, but Slow Hand Clapton - now we're talking.

To the tune of
"Tears in Heaven" by Eric Clapton and Will Jennings.

Does my ass look fat
In this toga and halo?
Are my wings on straight?
Wanna see under my toga?

I’m feeling strong
My hair is long
And I’m taking control of
Things in Heaven

I’m gonna change this place
With some Feng shui and Basti
Start a dancing class
Teach St. Peter the sprinkler

I’ll find a man
Who’ll fit into my plan
‘cause there’s gotta be one
Here in Heaven

I can see you all
I can make you sneeze
I can make you laugh
Have you begging please,
Begging please.

I can watch you all
From my perch here in Heaven
Even in your shower stall
The view is scary from Heaven

I’m glad you found the receipt
For the cloth from JoAnn’s
And that boat name was cool
But hard to steer if from Heaven

Now I’m off for a dance
Gram and I are the hosts
“Cause we now run the show
Here in Heaven.

not a song parody, but beautiful none the less:

Oh we never know where life will take us
I know it's just a ride on the wheel.
And we never know when death will shake us
And we wonder how it will feel.

So goodbye my friend
I know I'll never see you again
But the time together through all the years
Will take away these tears
It's okay now...
Goodbye my friend.

I see a lot of things that make me crazy
And I guess I held on to you
I could've run away and left
Well, maybe...
But it wasn't time, we both knew

So goodbye, my friend
I know I'll never see you again
But the love you gave me through all the years
Will take away these tears
It's okay now...
Goodbye my friend

Life's so fragile and love's so pure
We can't hold on but we try
We watch how quickly it disappears
And we never know why

But I'm okay now
Goodbye my friend.
I can go now
Goodbye my friend.

Those redone songs and quoted poems really brought it home. Thanks!

Some days ain't it just like the friends here, (and folks who have found their way on, too!) are a right foot, and music is a left? Without these how would we even walk? Or dance? Or workout until breathless? Even if we don't get an olympic-grade backside?

A friend of Deb took me sailing this weekend. When I got home this song came into my head.

Thank you Amy for this way of living on, and Karin, for handing me the tiller. Deb, you speak through all of us.

"We were born before the wind
Also younger than the sun
Ere the bonnie boat was won as we sailed into the mystic

Hark now hear the sailors cry
Smell the sea and feel the sky
Let your soul and spirit fly into the mystic

And when that fog horn blows I will be coming home
And when that fog horn blows I want to hear it
I dont have to fear it, and

I want to rock your gypsy soul
Just like way back in the days of old
Then magnificently we will float into the mystic...

by Van Morrisson

thanks again! - JeffL

Mollie-
It was Mercury in Retrograde, not Mars!
For the record, Mercury is going into Retrograde again Sept. 24th. The first thing I always do is email Debbie when it is coming - I miss my favorite Gemini!
